Obituary

Virgil F. "Bud" Waldhoff, 87 of Shumway, passed away at 7:50 p.m. Wednesday, January 21, 2015 at H.S.H.S. St. Anthony Memorial Hospital in Effingham.

A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 26, 2015 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Shumway. Burial will be held in the church cemetery with military graveside rites. Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sunday at Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham with a 6:00 p.m. Knights of Columbus rosary. Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Church or Cemetery. Bud was born April 10, 1927 in Effingham, the son of Joseph H. and Josephine (Braun) Waldhoff. He served with the United States Army with the Japanese Occupation following WWII and also during the Korean War. Bud later became a member of the Effingham American Legion Post #120 and V.F.W. Post #1769. He spent his life farming on his family's farm, as well as being a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Shumway where he served as trustee. Bud was a charter member of the Teutopolis Knights of Columbus Council #2874.

He is survived by his four brothers, Joseph L., Richard F., Leonard (Vicki) and Dale (Carole), all of Shumway; two sisters, Lucille M. Reardon of Effingham and Patricia (John) Schumacher of Sigel; brother-in-law, Kenneth (Ruby) Seiler of Effingham; many nieces and nephews also survive.

Bud was preceded in death by his parents; infant siblings, Robert, Raymond and Mary Waldhoff; sister, Marian Seiler; brother-in-law, Dan Reardon and nephew, Troy Waldhoff.
