Verena M. Niemerg, 84, passed away Sunday, June 5, 2022 at her home in rural Dieterich.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 9, 2022 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Bishop Creek with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 8, 2022 at the church with a 3:45 p.m rosary and a 6:30 p.m. parish wake service. Memorial donations may be given to the charity of the donor's choice.

Verena was born August 24, 1937 in Effingham, the daughter of Joseph and Clara (Lawrence) Cornell. She married Celestine J. "Cel" Niemerg on June 22, 1957 and he preceded her in death on July 23, 2017.

Verena is survived by her daughters, Sandra Brackney and Vicki Niemerg, both of Dieterich and Lori (Tim) Bierman of Wheeler; grandchildren, William Brackney and Natalie Bierman; step-granddaughters, Bridget (Eric) Bohnoff, Michelle (Jimmy) Fatheree, Michelle (Austin) Paine, and Stephanie (Paul) Cox; great-grandson, Grant Galloway; step-great-grandchildren, Briley and Berkley Bohnhoff; brother, Tom (Doris) Cornell of Effingham and sister, Teresa Miller of Neoga; in-laws, Barbara Cornell, Rebecca Cornell, Larry (Peggy) Niemerg,  Evie McCreery and Jeanette (Richard) Esker; numerous nieces and nephews.

Verena was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son-in-law, Bruce "Joe" Brackney; siblings, Gertrude Smith, Bernadette Norman, Marie Hicks, Herman Cornell, Loretta Berchtold, George Cornell, Virgil Cornell, Richard Cornell and Madonna Bushur.
