Urban E. Goldstein, 99 of Sigel, passed away at 9:03 p.m. Monday, March 14, 2016 at H.S.H.S. St. Anthony Memorial Hospital in Effingham.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, March 18, 2016 at St. Michael the Archangel Church, Sigel, with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening at Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham with a 6:30 p.m. parish wake service. Memorials may be made to St. Michael's School or to the donor's choice.
Mr. Goldstein was born June 22, 1916 in Sigel, the son of John and Anna (Hoette) Goldstein. He married Florence F. Finney on August 17, 1939 and she preceded him in death in 2009. Urban was retired from the Poultry Division of the State of Illinois Department of Agriculture. He was the former mayor of Sigel and parade marshall for the Sigel Sesquicentennial. Urban was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Church in Sigel, Sigel Knights of Columbus and was one of the founding members of the Illinois Turkey Federation.
He is survived by his daughter, Dorothy M. "Dot" (Ted) Hanfland of Sigel; daughter-in-law, Pauline Goldstein of Teutopolis; son-in-law, George (Rebecca) Turnbull of Greensboro, N.C.; grandchildren, John (Janet) Goldstein of Teutopolis, Tom (Dawn) Goldstein of Springfield and Lynn (Ryan) Leach of Rochester; great-grandchildren, Rachel, Alex, Brock, Collin and Jace Goldstein and Jordan, Carter and Griffin Leach.
Urban was preceded in death by his parents; wife; son, Rich; daughter, Anna Louise "Lou" Turnbull and sister, Mary Fowkes Walk.
