Thomas D. "Perky" Overbeck, 73, of Teutopolis died at 8:55 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 6, 2011, at St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital, Effingham.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Teutopolis. Private burial services will be held at a later date. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the church with a 6:30 p.m. parish wake service. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society. Bauer Funeral Home, Teutopolis, is assisting the family with arrangements.
Tom was born Sept. 13, 1937, in St. Francis Township, the son of Ralph and Cecelia (Ordner) Overbeck. He married Margaret A. "Maggie" Shea on Oct. 12, 1963.
Tom had worked as a miller for 42 years at Siemer Milling Co., Teutopolis. He also farmed with his family for many years. He was an avid Cardinals and Illini fan and looked forward to watching the games with his boys. Tom also enjoyed fishing and playing with his grandkids and was the best cookie baker in the county. He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Church, Teutopolis, the Holy Name Society and the Teutopolis Knights of Columbus Council 2874.
Tom was a very loving husband, father and grandfather.
Survivors include his wife, Maggie, of Teutopolis; three sons, Tony of Teutopolis, Jeff (wife, Debbie) of Dieterich, and Scott of Teutopolis; two daughters, Cheryl (David) Shumate of Westville and Laura (Gordon) Martin of Effingham; seven grandchildren, Alex, Thomas, Taylor, Macy, Cody, Caleb and Jesse; five stepgrandchildren, Jennifer, Amber, Shelly, Joshua and Lori; 10 great-stepgrandchildren, Jasmine, Kalin, Koby, Trinity, Devon, Chloe, Hillary, Frankie, Michael and Christopher; his special little ball game buddy, Braydon "Bubber Dog," his great-great-stepgrandson; one brother, Gerald of Sterling; three sisters, Mardell Bart of Dixon, Sister Nadine Overbeck, OSF, of Romeoville and Mary Maksl of Eagan, Minn.; one sister-in-law, Mary Overbeck of Teutopolis; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Ralph Jr., Jim and infant, John; one sister, Sister Daniel Marie; one sister-in-law, Linda; and two brothers-in-law, Richard Bart and Joe Maksl.
