Thomas J. Dunn, 86 of Effingham, passed away at 10:50 p.m., Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at Lavender Ridge Memory Care in Effingham.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 12, 2014 at Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham with burial in Arborcrest Memorial Park with military graveside rites. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to funeral services, Saturday morning at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the donor's choice. www.bauerfh.com

Thomas was born November 14, 1927 in Phillips, Wisconsin, the son of Arthur Dean and Beulah (Sutton) Dunn. He married Jennie Lee Ashley on January 9, 1949 and she preceded him in death in 2007. Thomas served on USS Wright, USS Cicily and USS Wasp, during the Korean War with the United States Navy. He retired from the Illinois Department of Transportation after 22 years. Thomas was a member of the Beecher City Fraternal Order of Masons and IBT Local 26 Teamsters.

Thomas is survived by his son, Thomas "Bo" (Connie) Dunn of Covington, TN and Dennis Dunn of Mason; four daughters, Brenda (Dave) Sowers of Jewett, Iris (Russ)Geier of Hidalgo, Beverly (Mark) Geier of Wakefield and Carolyn (Kevin) Weason of Thomaston, GA; three brothers, Delbert (Stelma) Dunn of Charleston, Duane (Mary Ellen) Dunn of Brimfield and Gerald (Joan) Dunn of Noble; sisters-in-law, Mickey (Lowell) Veach of Altamont and Melanie Hall of Effingham; 17 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews also survive.

Thomas was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Jennie; two sisters, Gladys Dunn and Pauline Miller; two brothers, Harvey Keith Dunn and Dale Martin Dunn.
