Theresa E. Hartke, 89 of Dieterich, passed away at 6:42 p.m., Friday, September 12, 2014 at Lakeland Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Effingham.
A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, September 16, 2014 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Bishop Creek, with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday evening at the church, with a 7:00 p.m. parish wake service. Memorials may be made to the donor's choice.
Theresa was born February 24, 1925 in Sigel, the daughter of John and Christina (Will) Hoene. She married Clarence F. "Barney" Hartke on October 23, 1946 and he preceded her in death on December 1, 2013. Theresa was a member of St. Isidore Parish and the St. Isidore Council of Catholic Women.
Theresa's greatest joy was taking care of her family. She spent much of her time cooking, playing cards, making ice cream cones, or crocheting. If she wasn't doing that, she was cheering on the St. Louis Cardinals.
Theresa is survived by her five children, Barb (Joe) Helmink of Lillyville, Dennis (Mary) Hartke of Dieterich, Lois Phariss of Chickasha, OK; Brian (Sue) Hartke of Dieterich and Mary Hartke of Simpsonville, South Carolina; daughter-in-law, Pat Hartke of Vandalia; brother, John (Ruth) Hoene of Effingham; 15 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Theresa was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Melvin; two sons-in-law, Gene Long and Lonnie Phariss; three brothers, Alph, Norbert and Ray; three sisters, Ann Bushur, Rose Koester and Eleanor Fuesting.
