Obituary

Steven W. Dasenbrock, 64, passed away Friday, July 22, 2022 at his home in Effingham.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, July 29, 2022 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Effingham with burial in St. Anthony Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 6:30 p.m. Knights of Columbus rosary, Thursday at Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham. Memorial donations may be given to Effingham County Humane Society.

Steve was born June 23, 1958 in Effingham, the son of Harold R. and Helen A. (Dust) Dasenbrock. He married Karen Grunloh on September 19, 1987. They were blessed with 3 children. Steve started his work career at John Boos for 13 years where he served as a union steward for most of his time there. He was the Knights of Columbus building manager for 9 years. He then went on to serve as the Effingham County Treasurer for almost 20 years. Steve then finished his career with J&J Ventures, which he truly enjoyed. Amidst his day jobs, he also was a well known softball and baseball umpire for over 15 years. He was a member of the St. Anthony Church and Knights of Columbus. He was an avid stock market guru, and enjoyed sharing his strategies with anyone who was interested. In his free time, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends through sports and cookouts. He was known as the "Commish" in the coveted Fantasy Football League for over 15 years.

Steve is survived by his wife, Karen of Effingham; sons, Christian (Kalie) of Effingham and Eli of Hendersonville, TN; daughter, Allie (Dylan) Wiseman of St. Louis; his siblings, Patrick Dasenbrock of Teutopolis, Janice Heynen of Effingham, Mary (Michael) Altgilbers of Effingham, Marsha (Gregory) McCracken of West Hartford, CT, Thomas Dasenbrock of Effingham, Beth (David) Yerigan of Ankeny, IA and Cheryl (Darren) Johnson of Watson; mother-in-law, Pauline Zumbahlen of Teutopolis.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Joyce Dasenbrock and brother, Mark H. Dasenbrock; sister-in-law, Mary Dasenbrock and nephew, Jacob Heynen.
