Obituary

Stanley L. "Stan" Richardson, 70, passed away at 6:15 p.m. Sunday evening at his home in Effingham, surrounded by his family.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 17, 2015 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Effingham with burial in St. Anthony Cemetery with military rites. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham with a 6:30 p.m. Elks Memorial Service. Memorials may be made to Effingham Elks #1016 Handicapped Children Fund, the Effingham County Veteran's Memorial or to the donor's choice.

Stan was born September 24, 1945 in St. Louis, MO, the son of Harry L. Richardson and Carmen (Ragland) Bolton. He graduated from Effingham High School in the class of 1964 and later attended University of Illinois, as well as Eastern Illinois University. Stan proudly served in the United States Army from 1966 to 1968. He served in Vietnam as an infantry squad leader for the 8th and 4th division as an E-5 Sargent, serving in the Delta and was a Purple Heart recipient.

Stan was a member of the Effingham Elks, VFW, American Legion, Effingham Country Club and the DAV. He was the former president of Big Brother in Effingham County, past board member of the Effingham Area United Way where he served two terms and was on the Board of Directors of the Greater Effingham Chamber of Commerce for six years. Stan was a charter member of the Board of Directors of the Effingham County YMCA, where he participated in the planning, design, building and hiring of the first director, as well as serving eight years on the board. He was on the board of directors of the Effingham County Youth Commission for 15 years where he served as Secretary-Treasurer, Vice President and two terms as President. Stan received the key to the city of Effingham and was named the areas "Outstanding Young Man" by the local Jaycees and was also awarded the "Distinguished Citizens Award" by the Southeastern District of the Illinois Jaycees.

Stan was the Senior Marketing Account Manager for the Cromwell Radio Group (WCRA/ WCRC) for 42 years. He enjoyed playing golf and tennis, fishing, spending time on the beach, but mostly spending time with his family and friends.

Stan is survived by his wife of 47 years, Shirley (Kaufman) Richardson of Effingham; two daughters, Michelle (Dean) Conkling of Effingham and Kimberly (Todd) Weber of Robinson; grandchildren, Christopher Conkling, Jordan Conkling, Lauren Weber, Tyler Weber, Cole Weber, Kylee Weber and Lucas Green; great-grandson, Kason Conkling; brothers, Harry Dean (Cindy) Richardson, Newton (Mary) Richardson, Louis Richardson and Jerry (Joyce) Speer; sisters, Diana Huster, Lynette (Joe) Kenter, Harriet (Steve) Moss, Kathy (Lloyd) Bruns, Connie (Mike) Terbrock, Ellen Ann Victor and Anette (Wille) Pfeiffer.

He was preceded in death by his parents; father and mother-in-law, Clifford and Lucille Kaufman; step-mother, Cloe Richardson and step-father, Jerry Leturno; sisters, Norma Holloway, Carolyn Greer and Glenda Chamness; brother-in-law Bill Huster.
