Shirley A. Campton, 87 of Effingham, passed away Tuesday, April 9, 2024 at HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, April 13, 2024 at Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham with burial in Oakridge Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9:00 am to the time of service, Saturday at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be given to Effingham County Humane Society.

Shirley was born August 21, 1936 in rural Effingham, the daughter of Wilbur and Helen (Dappert) Ping. She was a member of the Women of the Moose, the Edgewood American Legion Auxiliary #1168, and the Effingham V.F.W. #1769 Auxiliary. Shirley worked for more than 20 years at General Electric in Mattoon, IL and after retirement dedicated her time, talent and treasure to volunteer work serving our nation's veterans through the VA, VFW and the American Legion.

Shirley is survived by her special friend of over 20 years, Milt Elefson of Effingham; sisters, Mary Hutton of Bellingham, WA, and Rita (Roger) Asplin of Altamont; several nieces and nephews; her felines Buddy and Casper. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Charles Ping, and sister, Maxine McQuaig.
