Ronald C. "Ron" Israel, 83, formerly of Effingham, passed away Sunday, July 5, 2020 at Life's Journey Senior Living in Mattoon.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 11, 2020 at Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham with military rites. Burial will take place in Westlawn Cemetery in Newton at a later date. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Effingham American Legion.

Ron was born February 7, 1937 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the son of Gwendolyn Israel. He married Alma Evanella Ash on July 8, 1967 and she preceded him in death in 2007. Ron served with the United States Air Force for 26 years in the medical records division.

Ron is survived by his son, Stephen (Jill) Israel of Fairfield; grandchildren, Michael, David and Mia; brother, Doug Mickelson of Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents; wife; brother, Don Mickelson and sisters, Patricia Whitley and Judy Fischer.
