Obituary

Roger L. Esker, 72, passed away Sunday, December 20, 2020 at his home in Teutopolis.

A private family funeral mass will be held at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Teutopolis with burial in St. Francis Cemetery. His family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the Teutopolis Knights of Columbus.

Roger was born July 27, 1948 in Teutopolis, the son of Louis and Matilda (Hoene) Esker. He attended Southern Illinois University - Carbondale where he earned a degree in Civil Engineering. After college, Roger moved back to his home place in Teutopolis and followed in his father's footsteps in the carpentry business. Roger was known in the community as an engineer who built solid houses. His opinion was valued and respected by his peers. Roger was also known as a creative person who had an eye for detail.

Roger enjoyed socializing with his family and friends. You could find him at the Teutopolis Knights of Columbus Hall on his favorite barstool reading the newspaper and enjoying a frosty mug. He also enjoyed going down to Pope County to hunt with his friends. When stopping by to visit Roger, you would hear him playing his favorite 60's music or Patsy Kline. In his last years, Roger was busy driving his golf cart around town, visiting his family in his neighborhood. He was a member of the St. Francis Catholic Church and a 4th degree member of the Teutopolis Knights of Columbus Council #2874.

Roger is survived by his siblings, Louis (Darlene) Esker of Effingham, Karen (Bruce) Weber of Teutopolis, Ruth (Bob) Einhorn of Lake Sara, Alice (Terry) Gephart of Effingham, Mike (Sanora) Esker of Napa, CA and Dave (Barb) Esker of Swansea; brother-in-law, David Probst of Teutopolis.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Marlene Probst; brothers, Dan and Bobby and sister-in-law, Cathy (Line) Esker.
