Obituary

Richard J. "Dick" Meyer, 82, passed away at 9:00 p.m., Saturday, December 14, 2013 at his home in Effingham.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, December 20, 2013 at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Sigel with burial in St. Michael's Cemetery with military graveside rites. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Thursday evening at the church with a 6:30 p.m. parish wake service. Memorials may be made to the donor's choice.

Dick was born November 30, 1931 in Effingham, the son of William and Christine (Nieman) Meyer. He married Joanie C. Krone on November 26, 1966 and she survives. Dick was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Sigel, past commander of the Sigel American Legion Post #1134 and served in the infantry with the Illinois National Guard. For 12 years, he was the Supervisor of Assessments for Sigel and Big Spring Township. Dick was a retired carpenter for Heritage Builders and was also a part time farmer.

Dick is survived by his wife, Joanie Meyer of Effingham; son, William D. (Annette) Meyer of Effingham; brother, George of Indianapolis, IN; four sisters, Rita (Norbert) Stumborg of Effingham, Margeret (Dave) Loudenback of Indianapolis, IN, Anna (Paul) Gill of St. John, IN and Alice (Jim) Rhodes of Effingham; four grandchildren, Michelle Russell of Kincaid, Michael, Ricky and Christopher Meyer of Effingham.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Aloys "Lefty" Meyer and wife, Gertrude; sister, Magdaline Meyer; brother-in-law, Joe Miller and sister-in-law, Mable Meyer.
