Philip Louis Kortte, 71 of Effingham, passed away in the comfort of his own home at 3:42 a.m. Wednesday, November 26, 2014.
A funeral mass will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, November 29, 2014 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Effingham with burial in St. Anthony Cemetery with military rites. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday evening at Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham with a 6:00 p.m. Knights of Columbus rosary. Philip was born July 15, 1943 in Effingham, the son of Henry F. and Celeste (Haarmann) Kortte. He married Jane M. Niebrugge on April 27, 1968 and she survives. Philip served with the United States Army from 1965 to 1967, with most of that time spent in Germany. He was also a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Effingham and an honorary life member of the Effingham Knights of Columbus Council #665. Philip retired as a partner of H.K.W. Construction and farming.
Philip is survived by his wife, Jane; his son, Michael Kortte; two daughters, Maria (Paul) Moran and Debra Kortte; brother, Ralph (Betty Jean) Kortte and sister, Marita (Don) Kemme; six grandchildren, Michael, Anthony and Amber Kortte, Mitch, Macy and Molly Moran.
Philip was preceded in death by his parents.
