Obituary

Norma J. Mette of Effingham, passed away on her 69th birthday, Wednesday, February 11, 2015 at Rest Haven in Newton.

A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, February 16, 2015 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Bishop Creek, with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Sunday evening at the church with a 6:00 p.m. parish wake service. Memorials may be made to the donor's choice. Norma was born February 11, 1946 in Effingham County, the daughter of Aloysius and Mathilda (Kroeger) Mette. She was an avid quilt maker, seamstress and enjoyed teaching religion classes. Norma enjoyed baking bread and sugar cookies, doing puzzles, playing cards, mushroom hunting and traveling. She worked in the office at World Color Press for over twenty years. Norma was a lifelong member of St. Isidore Parish, St. Aloysius Catholic Church, and was a member of St. Isidore Council of Catholic Women.

Norma is survived by her three brothers, John (Janice) Mette, Eugene Mette and James (Rita) Mette, all of Effingham; eight sisters, Carolyn (Robert) Poe of Effingham, Theresa (James) Miller of Newton, Rose (Art) Sudkamp of Casey, Kathy (Rick) Mitchell of Effingham, Alice (Dennis) Johnson of Stewardson, Mary (Rex) Allen of Dieterich, Rita Mette of Teutopolis and Janice (Bill) Zimmerman of Watson; numerous nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents.
