Norma Josephine Cain, 99 of Effingham, passed away at 3:55 a.m. Wednesday, October 17, 2012 at St. Anthony Memorial Hospital in Effingham.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, October 20, 2012 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Effingham. Visitation will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., Saturday morning at Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham with burial in St. Anthony Cemetery. Memorials may be made to donor's choice.

Norma was born July 22, 1913 in Effingham, the daughter of John B. and Philomena (Wente) Althoff. She married John D. Cain on November 11, 1945 in Des Moines, IA and he preceded her in death in 1979. Norma was a graduate of St. Anthony High School, Class of 1933. She was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Effingham and the St. Anthony Council of Catholic Women.
Althoff Insurance Agency was started by her father, John B. Althoff in the 1900's. Urse and Ray Althoff ran the company after the death of their father in 1933. Norma started working at Althoff Insurance Agency after high school and ran the business with her husband, John in 1946 until retiring in 1975.

Norma is survived by her daughter, Norma Jean (Don) Springer of Denton, TX; grandchildren, Donna J. Springer of Addison, TX, Deborah E. Evans-Lombe of Austin, TX, David W. Springer of Garland, TX, Diane L. Springer of Denton, TX, Daniel W. Springer of Kenne, TX, Dawn E. (Edward) Jarusinsky of Austin, TX and Doug A. (Christine) Cain of Colgate, WI; great-grandchildren, Brian B. Cain, Alyssa M. Cain, Jonalyn E. Cain, Elaine M. Evans-Lombe, David W. Springer and Caitlyn P. Springer; nieces and nephews, Kay Adams, Kent Weber, Jane Brandt and Bill Martens; caretakers, Anna Miller, Joedy Hightower (great niece) and Kay Adams (niece).

Norma was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John; son, James; one brother, Raymond Althoff; three sisters, Urse Weber, Midge Martens and Marie Martens.
