Norbert J. Stumborg, 93 of Effingham, passed away 6:20 a.m. Wednesday, May 6, 2015 at The Glenwood in Effingham.
A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 9, 2015 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Effingham with burial in St. Mary's Cemetery, Green Creek with military rites. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday evening at Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham with a 6:30 p.m. parish prayer service. Memorials may be made to Crossroads Cancer Center. Norbert was born February 26, 1922 in Effingham, the son of Joseph and Katherine (Daub) Stumborg. He was a 1941 graduate of St. Anthony High School in Effingham. Norbert served with the United States Army during WWII from 1943 to 1946, where he was stationed in New Guinea. He married Rita M. Meyer on September 2, 1950 and she survives.
Norbert retired from Moritz Ready Mix after 30 years of service. He was a lifelong member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, member of International Union of Operating Engineers Local #841, and was a member of the Effingham American Legion Post #120 for over 60 years.
Norbert is survived by his wife, Rita of Effingham and son, David (Robin) of Clay City. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Dorothy Stumborg and Helen Gower; two brothers, Raymond and Maurice Stumborg; half-brother, Albert Stumborg, Sr..
