Mildred M. Vahling, 94, passed away at 7:29 a.m. Thursday, June 15, 2017 at her home in Teutopolis.

A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Effingham with burial in St. Francis Cemetery, Teutopolis. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday evening at Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham, with a 6:30 p.m. ladies rosary. Memorial donations may be made to the donor's choice.

Mildred was born November 28, 1922 in Sigel, the daughter of Martin C. and Mathilda (Buehnerkemper) Swingler. She married Frank J. Vahling on January 6, 1942 and he preceded her in death in 1983. Mildred was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Teutopolis and the Council of Catholic Women.

Mildred is survived by her two sons, Larry (Kay) Vahling of Kissimmee, FL and Gary (Lisa) Vahling of Teutopolis; two daughters, Mary Ann McClanahan of Pekin and Judy Vahling of Teutopolis; sister, Phyllis Buening of Effigham; eleven grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren.

Mildred was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two sons, James "Jim" Vahling and John Vahling; siblings, Wilbert K. Swingler, Harold V. Swingler, Marietta "Mickey" Tegenkamp and Russell Swingler.

The Vahling family would like to say a special thanks to Mildred's neighbor, Dorothy Gardewine and also to her niece, Jeannie Westendorf.
