Obituary

Mildred Elizabeth Tegeler, 91, died at 6:30 a.m., Saturday, June 25, 2011 at Relais Bonne Eau Community Hospice Home in Edwardsville, Illinois.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 29, 2011 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Effingham with burial in St. Anthony Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday evening at Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham with a 5:00 p.m. C.C.W. Rosary and a 6:00 p.m. parish wake service. Memorials may be made to Relais Bonne Eau Hospice of Southern Illinois or to Catholic Charities.

Mildred was the daughter of William and Anna (Unkraut) Haarmann. She was born September 17, 1919 in Effingham County. She married Albert Bernard Tegeler of Green Creek on May 2, 1945 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Effingham. He preceded her in death in 1995.

Mrs. Tegeler resided most of her life in Douglas Township within a half of a mile of where she was born. In her later years, she spent many winters with her daughters in Phoenix, Arizona. Since July 2008, she lived in the Edwardsville area. Mildred's hobby was embroidering quilts. Her last days were spent completing a baby quilt for the family's next arrival. She was devoted to her family, always had a smile on her face and never knew a stranger.

She began working as a volunteer for the St. Anthony Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and the Cross at the Crossroads. The land on which the Cross was built was part of the family farm for many years. She was a lifelong member of St. Anthony Church and has been a member of the Altar Sodality and served as the school's PTA president. Mildred was also a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas.

Mildred is survived by her children; Mary Ann (Dan) Richy and Dorothy Tegeler (Joe Shryock) both of Phoenix, Arizona; Joan (Randel) Saylor of Fort Smith, Arkansas, William (Michelle) of Terre Haute, Indiana, Susan (Larry) Runde Wildwood, Missouri, Robert Tegeler of Edwardsville and daughter-in-law, Teresa Tegeler of Effingham; sister, Marie Harmer of Homer Glen; Grandchildren, Mark (Kim) , Matthew (Michele) and Michael (Mandy) Tegeler; Allison (Luciano) Castellari, Kimberley (Adam) Carpenter, Melissa (Randy) Brammer, Laura (Saul) Venzor, Paul (Tara Attea) Geisler, Eric and Allan Saylor, Henry Tegeler, Kevin, Kristin and Scott Runde, Miles and Mitchel Tegeler; step grandchildren, Jeff and Kacee Shryock, Shantell Gladson, Megan Schmidt and Robin Hall; great grandchildren, Zachary, Patrick, Madalyn, Joseph, Connor, Luke, Noah, Aidan Tegeler, Cole Buehnekemper, Emmet Geisler and Wyatt Carpenter; step great-grandchildren, Anali Venzor, Piper Betty and Kadence Schmidt.

Mildred is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Albert; son, Louis; two brothers, Frederick and Wilbert Haarmann.
