Melvin C. Sieben, 81, passed away at 3:55 a.m., Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at his home in Effingham.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, December 21, 2013 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Shumway with burial in St. Mary's Cemetery with military rites. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday evening at Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham with a 7:00 p.m. Knights of Columbus rosary and 4th degree service. Memorials may be made to Catholic Charities or the donor's choice.
Melvin was born May 2, 1932 in Mason, the son of Clarence W. and Gladys C. (Hinkle) Sieben. He married Elaine E. Habing on May 14, 1955 and she survives. Melvin was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Shumway, Effingham Knights of Columbus Council #665, Effingham Knights of Columbus Fourth Degree #214, Effingham American Legion Post #120 and the Effingham V.F.W. Post #1769. For 38 years, he was the maintenance supervisor at Shell Pipeline Corporation and also served with the United States Navy during the Korean War.
Melvin is survived by his wife, Elaine of Effingham; four sons, Gregory (Heidi) of Naperville with their children, Lauren and Robert, Michael (Rosemary) of Lisle (son, Neil, deceased), Scott (Linda) of Evansville, IN with their children, Caleb, Nicholas and Nathan, and Roger (Jennifer) of Evansville, IN with their children, Miranda and Daniel; two daughters, Sandra (Richard) Bloemker of Naperville with their children, Megan, Shannon and Delanie and Nancy (David) Koehler Jr. of Evansville, IN with their children, David, Will and Sam; two brothers, Glen (Shirley) Sieben of Owasso, OK and John (Darlene) Sieben of Mason; sister, Linda (Kent) Hetzer of Wheeler.
Melvin was preceded in death by his parents and grandson, Neil.
