Matilda C. Esker Bierman, 96, died at 11:40 a.m. Sunday, November 13th, 2016 peacefully at her home in Teutopolis.
A funeral mass will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday, November 18, 2016 at St Francis Church in Teutopolis with burial at St Francis Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday evening at the church with a prayer service and rosary to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Francis Church or Hospice.
Matilda "Tillie" was born June 6th, 1920 in Lillyville, the daughter of Frank and Mary (Doedtman) Hoene. She married Louis B. Esker on July 9, 1946 and he passed away on September 6th, 1975. On November 26th, 1982, she married Lawrence H. Bierman and he preceded her in death on September 5th, 1999.
Mrs. Bierman was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved gardening, bowling, St Louis Cards and winning at cards. She was a member of St Francis Church and VFW Ladies Auxillary.
Matilda is survived by her children, Roger Esker of Teutopolis, Louis (Darlene Bloemer) Esker of Effingham; Karen (Bruce) Weber of Teutopolis, Ruth (Robert) Einhorn of Effingham, Alice (Terry) Gephart of Effingham, Mike (Sanora Sous) Esker of LaSelva Beach, CA, Dave (Barb Beard) Esker of Swansea and Dan (Cathy Line) Esker of Teutopolis; son-in-law, Dave Probst of Teutopolis; 29 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren also survive.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; son, Robert Esker and daughter, Marlene Probst; one grandchild and one great-grandchild; brothers Allie, Leo, and Frank Hoene and sisters, Helen Waldhoff, Catherine Will and Rose Waldhoff.
