Obituary

Maryann Borries, 91 of Effingham, passed away at 10:04 p.m. Friday, January 27, 2017 at Sara Bush Lincoln Health Center in Mattoon.

A funeral mass will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, February 2, 2017 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Effingham with burial in St. Anthony Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until time of service, Thursday morning at the church. Memorials may be made to Catholic Charities. Online condolences may be left at www.bauerfh.com.

Maryann was born on September 11, 1925 in Witt, the daughter of Anthony and Anna (Urban) Zwinak. She married LeRoy "Chick" Borries on July 10, 1952 and he preceded her in death on July 2, 1999. Maryann was a graduate of Eastern Illinois University. She taught at Teutopolis, Effingham, and St. Anthony Schools. Maryann was also the co-owner and operator of Abe Lincoln Motel and Restaurant, Lincoln Lodge Motel, Best Western Motel, and Dairy Queen.

She was a lady of the community; former state regent for the the Catholic Daughter of the Americas, former diocesan president of Council of Catholic Women, and the former President of Teutopolis Secular Franciscans. Maryann was also a volunteer manager of Second Hand Rose-Catholic Charities for over twenty-five years. She enjoyed volunteering at Lakeland Nursing Home and Evergreen (Sunrise) Nursing Home for many years. Maryann was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Effingham, St. Anthony Council of Catholic Women, Ladies of Charity, and the president of Effingham County Right to Life.

Maryann is survived by her two sons, Michael (Margaret) and Mark (Dawn), both of Effingham; four grandchildren, Michelle Borries, Martina Connell, Jay Borries, and Dustin Borries; three great-grand children, Cadence, Aiden and Owen.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, LeRoy; brother, Anthony Zwinak and sister, Rosalia Hogge.
