Mary Ellen Mayhall

Mary Ellen (Schuette) Mayhall (age 77) of Effingham, Illinois, passed away on Monday, September 21, 2026 at St. John’s Hospital.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, September 28, 2026 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Effingham with burial in St. Anthony Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 3:00-6:00 PM on Sunday, September 27, 2026 at Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Anthony Schools or the donor’s choice.

Mary was born on April 16, 1949 in Effingham, Illinois, the daughter of Robert and Florence (Jansen) Schuette. Shortly after her birth, Mary was stricken with Polio. Much of her early life was spent in hospitals in both Peoria and Chicago. She was nearly seven when she came home to live in Effingham. She attended St. Anthony Grade School, and graduated from St. Anthony High School in 1968. Mary went to Southern Illinois University, where she earned an Associates Degree in Commercial Art. For many years, she was employed by Kingery Printing and Sim Products in Effingham.

Mary is survived by ten brothers and sisters: Pat Wendling (Roy) of Algonquin, Illinois; Charles (Jan) Schuette of Effingham, Jean Schuette of Effingham, Janice Sensel of Bloomington, Jody (Dean) Kinkelaar of Effingham, Tim (Jeanie) Schuette of Highland, David (Jamie) Schuette of Effingham, Gregg (Barb) Schuette of Effingham, Jeff Schuette of Bloomington, and Lee (Lori) Schuette of Riverside, California. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Jane Schuette and a multitude of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Florence Schuette; brother, Robert Schuette; and brother-in-law, Carl Sensel.
