Martha C. Schmidt's Obituary
Martha C. Schmidt, 86, of Effingham passed away at 11:57 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 11, 2012, at The Glenwood, Effingham.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Effingham, with burial in St. Anthony Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today, Aug. 13, at the church with a 4:30 p.m. CCW rosary and a 7 p.m. parish wake service. Memorials may be made to St. Anthony schools or School Sisters of Notre Dame. Bauer Funeral Home, Effingham, is assisting the family with arrangements. Martha was born July 13, 1926, in Bishop, the daughter of Ben and Anna (Voss) Bierman. She married Norbert F. Schmidt on April 23, 1947, and he preceded her in death in 1986.
She was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church and St. Anthony Council of Catholic Women.
She is survived by one son, William (wife, Susan) of Effingham; five daughters, Kathleen (special friend, Dave Rushing) Schmidt of Ballwin, Mo., Sister Connie Schmidt, SSND, of Pine Ridge, S.D., Irene (husband, Dennis) Koester of Effingham, Pat (husband, Don) Will of Teutopolis and Carol (husband, John) McNeely of Effingham; sister, Annie Meyer of Teutopolis; 17 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two grandchildren, Matthew McNeely and Emily Schmidt; two brothers, Leonard and Jerome Bierman; and three sisters, Louise Repking, Eleanor Pals and Sister Hildegarde Bierman, ASC.
