Obituary

Marilyn E. Meyer, 89, passed away at 6:26 p.m. Monday, February 14, 2022 at her home in Teutopolis, surrounded by her loving family.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, February 21, 2022 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Teutopolis with burial in St. Francis Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Sunday at the church. Memorial donations may be given to the St. Francis Church.

Marilyn was born January 29, 1933 in Teutopolis, the daughter of Virgil and Olive (Grunloh) Fuelle. She married Fred J. Meyer on November 24, 1955. Marilyn graduated from Teutopolis High School in 1951. She graduated from St. Johns School of Nursing - Springfield, IL in 1954. Marilyn started working at the new St Anthonys Memorial hospital 10 days after it opened. She was director of nursing at Effingham Health Department for 18 years. She graduated from Eastern Illinois University with a Bachelor's in Medical Administration. She was administrator for several group homes in Effingham and Paris for the mentally challenged adults. She received administrator of the year for 5 years straight. After retirement she continued to work with ARC. She and Fred volunteered greeting visitors at the Cross in Effingham. Marilyn enjoyed taking care of her flowers, traveling, Nascar races, Ttown sports and her grandchildren. She loved her two cats, Tiger and Molly.

Marilyn is survived by her husband, Fred of Teutopolis; son, David (Margie) Meyer of Teutopolis; daughters, Ellen (John) Howell of Pinckneyville and Lynne (Tony Nelson) Spalding of Teutopolis; siblings, Sue Hoelscher of Effingham and James (Maryanne) Fuelle of Terre Haute, IN; grandchildren, Marcia (Scott) Niebrugge, Mary Jo (Ed) Kreke, Michael (Ashlee) Howell, Melissa (Mike) Higgerson, Mark (Katie) Howell, Bailey (Jerrod) Estes; great-grandchildren, Max, Zac, Bryce, Brett, Jason, Lily, Kinlee, Kase, Parker, Jackson, Milo, Branden, Kaiden, Carter, Jonah and Quinn.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents; brother, John "Jack" Fuelle; brother-in-law, Frank Hoelscher; great-grandchildren, Dalton Howell and Laney Jo Niebrugge; son-in-law, Dave Spalding.
