Marietta L. McWhorter, 86, passed away at 5:50 a.m. Saturday, March 28, 2015 at her home in rural Effingham.

A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Lillyville, with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday evening at Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham, with a 6:00 p.m. parish wake service. Memorials may be made to St. Michael's School Parish Center/Gym.

Marietta was born February 8, 1929 in Cumberland County, the daughter of Louis F. and Clara (Sur) Wendt. She married Verne A. McWhorter on May 28, 1949 and he preceded her in death in 2010. Marietta was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Lillyville and the Sacred Heart Council of Catholic Women. She was a seamstress, did upholstery and was also a cook at Lillyville School.

Marietta is survived by her son, Greg (Lynne) McWhorter of Effingham; three daughters, Darlene (Jeff) Buehnerkemper of Teutopolis, Vivian (Steve) Kinkelaar of Effingham and Angela (John) Newsome of Effingham; twenty grandchildren and twenty-two great-grandchildren also survive.

Marietta was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Verne and two sisters, Jeanette Campton and Geraldine Clough.
