Marie "Merf" McDaniel, age 99, passed away at her home on Friday, December 25, 2020.

Private family services will be held at Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham with burial in Woodlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Alzheimer's Foundation or to the McDaniel Family.

Marie was born on March 4, 1921 in Marshall, Clark County, Illinois, the daughter of Pat Garrett and Lottie (Churchill) Garrett. She was raised in the Newton area. Marie married Myrl L. "Short" McDaniel on August 31, 1941 and he preceded her in death in 1995.

Marie worked mostly retail sales jobs in Effingham; Elman's Department Store and many years at The Thomas Shop.

She was a loving and caring mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend. Marie was also a die-hard Cardinal baseball fan.

Marie is survived by her sons, Robert and Michael McDaniel and grandsons, Corey (Heather) McDaniel and Scott McDaniel, all of Effingham; great-grandsons, Brady and Ian McDaniel; nieces, Linda Carter of Texas, Cathy (Sam) Rentfrow and Dixie (Jim) Brown, both of Arizona; nephew, Doug (Sandy) Heiden of Shumway.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents; step-father, Frank Aldridge; husband; son, Richard; grandson, Chris McDaniel; sisters, Laura Bell (Curt) Hentgen and Marjorie (Pete) Loftin; nephew, Danny Heiden.
