Marie B. Johnson, 92 of Effingham, passed away at 5:58 p.m. Thursday, June 16, 2016 at H.S.H.S. St. Anthony Memorial Hospital in Effingham.

A funeral mass will be held at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Effingham with burial in St. Anthony Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday evening at the church, with a 6:30 p.m. parish wake service, followed immediately by a combined C.C.W. and C.D. of A. rosary. In lieu of flowers, her family has requested that memorials be made to St. Anthony Schools or to Catholic Charities.

Marie was born February 14, 1924 in Effingham, the daughter of Henry J. and Mary E. (Buhnerkemper) Koester. She married Donald H. Johnson on April 17, 1948 and he preceded her in death in 1993. Mrs. Johnson was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church and Council of Catholic Women; member and past regent of Court Columbus #720, Catholic Daughters of the Americas and a charter member of Effingham County Genealogical and Historical Society.

Marie is survived by her son Thomas R. "Tom" (Louise) of Teutopolis; two daughters, Marianne (Dave) Maginel of Tamms and Julie Johnson of Colorado Springs, CO; four grandchildren, Jessica (Doug) Mette, Kelly (Mike) Buscher, Nick Williams and Lindsay Williams; four great-grandchildren, Charlie Mette, Lucy Mette, Sam Mette and Aidan Buscher.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Don; two daughters, Donna Jean and Kathy; brother, Vincent Koester and sister, Alma Hess.
