Obituary

Marguerite A. Schumacher, 89 of Sigel, entered her heavenly home at 4:00 a.m., Monday, July 20, 2015 at Willowbrook Memory Care, surrounded by her family.

A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, July 23, 2015 at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Sigel, with burial in St. Michael Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at the church, with a 6:00 p.m. combined T.O.S.F. and C.D.A. rosary and a 7:00 p.m. parish wake service. Memorials may be made to St. Michael's Catholic School. Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be left at www.bauerfh.com. Marguerite was born October 24, 1925 in rural Teutopolis, the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Nosbisch) Zerrusen. She married Albert "Bud" Schumacher on August 27, 1947 and he preceded her in death on October 16, 1991.

She was a dairy farmer's wife who loved working side by side with her husband. Marguerite was known for her love of cooking and baking for others, her creative entertainment ability and card-playing antics. People who knew her appreciated her warm hospitality and sense of humor. She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church of Sigel, Third Order of Secular Franciscans of Teutopolis, Past Regent and member of Catholic Daughters of America Court #720 of Effingham, St. Michael's Council of Catholic Women and De Colores. She was co-creator of the Perpetual Adoration in the Chapel at HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital, devoting many years to its continued success.

Marguerite is survived by her children, Connie Blackwell of Effingham, JoAnn (Tom) Niemerg of Sigel, Rose (Fred) Niebrugge of Effingham, Ellen (Mark) Hite of Macon, Ed (Kay) Schumacher of Sigel and Angie (Dean) Bloemer of Sigel; 26 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, 2 foster grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Lucille Schumacher of AZ, Helen Martin of Effingham and Lorraine Zerrusen of Teutopolis.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; her son in infancy, Albert Gerard; brothers, Sylvester "Buddy", Edwin, Clarence and Jim; sisters, Mariann Schumacher and Barbara Donsbach; son-in-law, Gary Blackwell; brothers-in-law, Vincent, Norbert and Leonard Schumacher; sisters-in-law, Bertha Schutte, Rita Thompson and Pauline Brummer.
