Obituary

Leonard B. Wernsing, 87 of Teutopolis, passed away at 6:14 p.m., Friday, April 19, 2013 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 24, 2013 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Teutopolis with burial in St. Francis Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Tuesday evening at the church, with a 7:30 p.m. parish wake service followed by Knight of Columbus rosary. Memorials may be made to the Teutopolis Grade School or Teutopolis American Legion Post #924. Bauer Funeral Home in Teutopolis is assisting the family with arrangements.

Leonard was born May 29, 1925 in Teutopolis, the son of Ferd and Anna (Bertram) Wernsing. He married Jeanette E. Swingler on May 29, 1947 and she preceded him in death in 2011. Leonard served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was a lifetime hardware salesman. Leonard was also a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Teutopolis, Teutopolis Knights of Columbus Council #2874, Teutopolis Lions Club and the Teutopolis American Legion Post #924.

Leonard is survived by one son, William L. "Bill" of Effingham; two daughters, Susan (Jerry) Brummer and Christie (Doug) Stephens, both of Teutopolis; four grandchildren, Monica Brummer, Christopher (Jenny) Brummer, Kimberly (Jimy) Vigue and Ross Stephens; three great-grandchildren, Amelia and Corin Brummer, Lena Vigue; one sister, Florence Koester of Teutopolis.

Leonard was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Jeanette; son, Philip; two brothers, Robert and Harry.
