Leo L. Haarmann, 88, of Mason died at 7:11 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 23, 2010, at St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital, Effingham.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. today at St. Anne's Catholic Church, Edgewood. Burial will be in St. Anthony Cemetery, Effingham. Visitation was held from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Bauer Funeral Home, Effingham, with a 4 p.m. parish rosary. Memorials may be made to the donor's choice.
Leo was born Aug. 19, 1922, in Effingham, the son of Joseph and Christine (Nuxoll) Haarmann Sr. He married Helen P. Sandschafer on Oct. 6, 1945.
Leo was a lifelong farmer. He was a member of St. Anne's Catholic Church, Edgewood, and Effingham Knights of Columbus Council 665 and the Fourth Degree.
He is survived by his wife, Helen, of Mason; sons, Raymond of Effingham, Larry (Tina) of Effingham, Steve (Sharon), Charles (JoAnn), Mike, Randy (Kara) and Melvin, all of Mason; daughters, JoAnn (Steve) Dittamore of Montrose, Martha Tucker of Mount Auburn, Lorraine (Marcus) Cisneros of Sylmar, Calif., Judy (Mike) Grubaugh of Altamont, Rose (Kenny) Birch of Effingham, Juanita (Doug) Dial of St. Elmo and Lisa (Ted) Rhodes of Teutopolis; sisters, Christina (Frank) Kortte and Dorothy Holkenbring, all of Effingham; 37 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Joe Jr. and Louis; two sisters, Celeste Kortte and Sister Maximinia; one grandchild, Craig Grubaugh; and one great-grandchild, Kaliya Dittamore.
