Phyllis J. "Joyce" Schaefer, 83 of Effingham, passed away Saturday, April 17, 2021 at Lakeland Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Effingham.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 21, 2021 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Effingham with entombment in Woodlawn Mausoleum. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. to time of service, Wednesday morning at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the Effingham County Humane Society or to the American Heart Association.

Joyce was born October 2, 1937 in Cresco, Iowa, the daughter of Victor and Ruth (Noblett) Kleiboer. She married Eugene A. Schaefer on December 1, 1956 and he preceded her in death in 1999. Joyce was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Effingham and was a long-time member of Beta Sigma Phi. She enjoyed reading, watching Hallmark movies and shopping. Joyce also loved to travel, line dance and spend time with her special companion, her dog, Lilly Mae.

Joyce is survived by her sons, Barry (Linda) of Effingham, Scott (Loretta) of St. Peters, MO and Brian (Robin) of Bloomington; daughter, Kristine Whitley of Effingham; sister, Vicky (Jerry) Seely of Madison, WI; brothers, Gerald Kleiboer of Kingsport, TN and Richard Kleiboer of Albany, WI; fourteen grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Randy (Rita) Smith of Menomonee, WI; sisters-in-law, Karleen (Gene) Bebel of Merrill, WI, Anita (Bill) Nicholls of Green Valley, AZ and Joan Wagner of Hudson, NH.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers and two sisters.
