Joseph Lee Chisler, 63, died Friday, March 27,2015 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

A memorial service will be held at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 1, 2015 at Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Joe's grandchildren or to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.

Joe was born September 25, 1951 in Effingham, the son of Cecil and Josephine (Donaldson) Chisler. After attending Effingham schools, Joe worked for the railroad and was later self-employed in the timber industry. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved fishing, deer hunting, ginseng hunting, and just being in the woods. In 1997, Joe was involved in a car accident that left him with a spinal cord injury and paralyzed from the chest down. After the accident, Joe became an amazing cook and gardener. He embraced life every day. Joe was a kind and caring father, son, and friend.

He is survived by his son, Brandon Jeffers; three daughters, Sheri Duhe, Aimee (Doug) Miller and Ashley Daly; eight grandchildren; brother, Frank Chisler and sister, Judy Runnels.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
