Joseph E. "Specs" Borries, 92 of Teutopolis, passed away at 6:23 p.m. Saturday, May 2, 2015 at HSHS St. Anthony Memorial Hospital in Effingham.
A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 7, 2015 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Teutopolis with burial in St. Francis Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at the church. Memorials may be made to the Family Life Center. Joseph was born February 27, 1923 in Teutopolis, the son of Joseph H. and Ella (Niendiek) Borries. He married Harriet C. "Sis" Pruemer on June 17, 1947 and she preceded him in death in 2012. Joseph served with the United States Army in the Philippines and later during the American Occupation of Japan. He was a farmer and founded Borries Open Pollinated Seed Corn Company. Joseph was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Teutopolis.
Joseph is survived by his three sons, Gerald (Mary), Thomas and Leonard, all of Teutopolis; granddaughter, Lisa (Joshua) Hutson of Teutopolis; great-grandson, Remington; sisters-in-law, Maryann Borries of Effingham, Josephine Borries of Teutopolis and Mary Pruemer of Effingham; brothers-in-law, Jerome (Louise) Pruemer of Shelbyville and Jerry (Carol) Pruemer of Teutopolis; many nieces and nephews also survive.
Joseph was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Harriet; two brothers, Leroy and Clarence and sister, Dorothy Pruemer.
