"Jack" Nisbet
January 25, 1928 – April 18, 2022
John W. "Jack" Nisbet, 94 of Effingham, passed away Monday, April 18, 2022, at Lakeland Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Effingham.
A memorial mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 22, 2022, at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Effingham with burial in St. Anthony Cemetery with military graveside rites. A memorial visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Friday at Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham. Memorial donations may be given to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
Jack was born January 25, 1928, in Roberts, the son of William W. And Marie (Ryan) Nisbet. He married Illa Mae Cler on February 12, 1949. Jack served with the United States Navy during WWII. He was a member of the Effingham V.F.W. Post #1769 and past commander of the Effingham American Legion Post #120. Jack worked for the I.C. Railroad for 44 years, until his retirement. He was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Effingham and a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus Council #665. Jack was also a member and past president of the Effingham Country Club. In 2014, Jack was inducted into the Friends of St. Anthony Hall of Fame.
Jack is survived by his wife, Illa of Effingham; sons, Doug of Shellman, GA, John Jr. (Hope) of Humboldt, David (Joyce) of St. Joseph, and Scott (Shelly) of Effingham; daughters, Susan Ellen (Randy) Mahoney of Hersher, Jackie (Mel) Austin of Mattoon and Tracy Nisbet of Effingham; brother, George Nisbet of St. Louis, MO, and sister-in-law, Mary Nisbet of Mendon; 6 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents; brother, William W. "Bill" Nisbet Jr; two sisters, Mary Ellen (Robert) Gumbel and Carolyn (Jack) Brown; sister-in-law Chloe Nisbet and grandson, John William Nisbet III.
