John C. Hartke, 73, of rural Dieterich died at 1:06 p.m. Friday, Feb. 11, 2011, at St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital, Effingham.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. today, Feb. 14, at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Bishop Creek. There will be a private family burial at a later date. Visitation was 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Bishop Creek, with a 5:30 p.m. parish wake and 7 p.m. Knights of Columbus Rosary. Memorials may be made to Crossroads Cancer Center or the Effingham County Humane Society. Bauer Funeral Home, Effingham, is assisting the family with arrangements.

Mr. Hartke was born Dec. 10, 1937, in Dieterich, the son of Andrew and Genevieve (Miller) Hartke. He married Carol Ann Heuerman on Aug. 16, 1958. He was a member of St. Isidore Parish and the Teutopolis Knights of Columbus Council 2874.

He is survived by his sons, Randy (Susan) of Effingham, Rick (Donna) of Dieterich and Roch (Tiff) of Effingham; daughters, Theresa (Guy) Anderson of Las Vegas, Tammy (Randy) Doedtman of Effingham and Tricia Hartke of Chicago; brother, Ron (Marylynn) of Teutopolis; sisters, Carol Jean Brandt of Effingham, Nancy Spelbring and Marilyn June Hartke, both of Dieterich; brother-in-law, Andrew Willenborg; grandchildren, Hank, Jodi, Sarah, Wade, Megan, Christin, Cody, Trent, Cole, Jordyn and Taylor; and great-grandchild, Madyson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Sue Ann Willenborg and Judy Reeder.
