Obituary

John Charles "Chuck" Green, 80 of Effingham, passed away at 7:58 p.m., Monday, March 25, 2013 at Evergreen Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Effingham, surrounded by his family.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Effingham with burial in St. Anthony Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday evening at Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham with a 6:30 p.m. Knights of Columbus rosary and Fourth Degree rites. Memorials may be made to Sacred Heart Church, Sacred Heart School or to the Parkinsons Disease Foundation.

Chuck was born February 18, 1933 in Altamont, the son of Joseph and Josephine (Reiss) Green. He married Helen Ruth "Pete" (Engbring) on October 2, 1954 and she preceded him in death in 2006.

He was an Eastern Illinois University graduate and taught at Clinton High School, and later taught at Lakeland College in Mattoon. Chuck was an insurance agent for the Knights of Columbus from which he retired. He loved to play golf and any outdoor activities. Chuck was always socially engaging with intent to cause a smile. He loved to volunteer for mass at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where he was a member and also helped with the school's religion program. Chuck was a past Grand Knight and Fourth Degree member of the Effingham Knights of Columbus #665 and a member of Toastmasters International. He served with the United States Army during the Korean War.

Chuck is survived by three sons, Mark (Carla) of Beecher City, Matt (Marla) of Effingham and John (Terri) of Virginia Beach, VA; two daughters, Cynthia (Jim) Percival of Brownsburg, IN and Linda (Ken) Wahlman of Gloucester, VA; brother, Pat (Kathleen) Green of Effingham; two sisters, Marge (Bob) Denton of Effingham and Bette Holmes of Champaign; sisters-in-law, Anna Marie Green of Effingham and Viola Green of Clinton; special friend, Hazel Wyckoff of Effingham; eleven grandchildren, Ashley, Paul, Stefanie, Jamie, Catherine, Megan, Mattalyn, Mikhail, Kimberly, Landon, Saylor and great-grandchild, Kalia.

Chuck was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Helen; two brothers, Richard and Joseph; infant sister, Mary.
