Janet K. "Jan" Prewitt, 83, passed away Wednesday, April 26, 2023 at her granddaughter's home in Effingham surrounded by her loving family.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Monday, May 1, 2023 at Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham with burial in Oakridge Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 11:00 am to the time of service, Monday at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be given to the charity of the donor's choice.

Jan was born July 21, 1939 in Clear Spring, Indiana, the daughter of Loren L. and Dortha (Callahan) Lockman. She married William M. "Bill" Prewitt on February 15, 1963 and he preceded her in death in 2019. Jan was an insurance adjuster with Country Companies for many years and an administrative assistant for the Keller Convention Center. She was also a member of the Centenary United Methodist Church in Effingham.

Jan is survived by her son, Mark of Effingham; daughter, Jan Prewitt of Effingham; daughter-in-law, Robin Schaefer-Prewitt of Beecher City; grandchildren, Jeremy Kyle of Effingham, Kristin (Matt) Brown of Effingham and James Prewitt of Aurora; great-grandchildren, Zachary Kyle, Abigail Kyle, Jillian Toops, Eva Toops, Kimber Brown, and Jeremiah Seaton; brother-in-law, Dale Bowman of Seymour, IN; nieces and nephews, Bryan Bowman, Betsy Bowman Bryant, Beth Thomas, and Becky Gordon.

Jan was preceded in death by her parents; sons, Scott and Matthew; sister, Marilyn Bowman.
