L. Jane Wernsing, 79 of Effingham, passed away at 4:17 pm at StoneBridge Memory Care on Tuesday, January 28, 2025.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 am Friday, January 31, 2025 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Effingham with burial in St. Anthony Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9:30 am to 11:00 am Friday at Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Alzheimer's Association or St. Jude Children's Hospital.

Jane was born August 13, 1945 in Decatur, the daughter of Clarence and Kathleen (Young) Smethers. She married James R. Wernsing on February 27, 1965.

Jane is survived by her husband, James; son, Michael (Cristy); daughter, Teresa Haywood; sisters, Mary Ann Stogner and Marie Schroeder; six grandchildren, Kayla, Craig, Cayden, Chloe, Colin, and Kate Wernsing.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Mike Smethers; son-in-law, Ken Haywood.
