James S. "Jim" Smith, 79, of Teutopolis died at 8:46 a.m. Sunday, May 15, 2011, at St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital, Effingham.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Teutopolis. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery with military rites. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today, May 17, at Bauer Funeral Home, Teutopolis, with a 6 p.m. parish wake service. Memorials may be made to the donor's choice.
Jim was born Nov. 22, 1931, the son of Stanley and Agnes (Koester) Smith. He married Peggy Ann Brumleve on Dec. 5, 1953. She preceded him in death in 2010.
Jim was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Teutopolis, Knights of Columbus Council 2874, Teutopolis American Legion Post 924 and was a volunteer fireman and retired as the assistant chief for the Teutopolis Fire Department. He served with the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.
Jim is survived by two sons, Brad (Betty) of Teutopolis and Ted (Lynne) of Plano, Texas; daughter, Myra (Dan) Preumer of Teutopolis; brother, Daniel (Joan) Smith of Teutopolis; sister, Diane (Paul) Doedtman of Effingham; brother-in-law, Tom (Mary Ann) Brumleve of Hudson; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Peggy; and one sister and brother-in-law, Ruth (Larry) Williamson
