James L. "Jim" Painter, 49, of rural Teutopolis died at 1:26 p.m. Monday, Nov. 1, 2010, in Shelby County.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Effingham. Burial will be in St. Anthony Cemetery, Effingham. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Bauer Funeral Home, Effingham, with a 6 p.m. Knights of Columbus rosary. Memorials may be made to the donor's choice.
Jim was born Aug. 25, 1961, in Effingham, the son of Roy D. and Clara L. (Rieman) Painter. He married Vickie L. Schoreck on May 19, 1989.
He was retired from IDOT after many years of service. He then worked as an over-the-road truck driver for several more years. He was most recently employed at Jones Trucking Service Inc. in Stewardson.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Effingham, Teutopolis Knights of Columbus Council 2874 and the Little Wabash Valley Bass Club. Jim loved to fish and hunt. He enjoyed teaching his children and grandchildren about cars. He spend many hours with his children and wife and always told them to use all the good times they had left. Jim had a wonderful and trusting relationship with all of his family and a heart of gold for everyone.
Survivors include his wife, Vickie, of rural Teutopolis; daughters, Stephanie (Josh) Pontious of St. Elmo and Crystal Williams of Shumway; sons, Daniel "Doug" (wife, Sandy) Gregory of Watson and Robert (wife, Debbie) Gregory of Amherst, Ohio; grandchildren, Joshua Pontious Jr., Michael Williams, Blake and Brandon Wyatt, and Danielle, Brianna, Bradley and Braden Gregory; and brother, Dan (wife, Joyce) of Farina.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
