Isabel Lustig, 90 of Effingham, passed away at 3:47 a.m., Monday, August 8, 2016 at St. John's Hospital in Springfield.
A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 16, 2016 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Effingham with burial in St. Anthony Cemetery. A combined C. D. of A. and C.C.W. rosary will be held at 4:00 p.m., followed by visitation until 7:00 p.m. Monday evening at Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham. Memorials may be made to the donor's choice. Isabel was born June 25, 1926 in Island Grove, the daughter of Morand and Anna (Habing) Lidy. She married Cletus V. Lustig on June 5, 1948 and he preceded her in death in 1990. Isabel earned her bachelor's degree and teaching certificate from Eastern Illinois University. She began her teaching career at Island Grove Elementary School. Isabel then became a 7th grade teacher at Central School in Effingham and taught there for many years. Before her retirement, Mrs. Lustig worked with students in the Title I Remedial Reading Program.
Along with her husband, they owned and operated J. M. Lustig Custom Cabinets in Effingham. Isabel volunteered with Catholic Charities and the F.I.S.H. organization. She was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Ladies of Charity, St. Anthony Hospital Auxiliary, Council of Catholic Women, Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Effingham Area DeColores and the prayer group at St. Anthony Church.
Isabel is survived by her son, Robert Lustig of Bradley and daughter, Ellen Lustig of Kula, Maui, Hawaii; four grandchildren, Rachael Lustig, Joseph Lustig, Jacqueline Lustig, and Bryan Naauau-Thurman; four great-grandchildren, Hekili, Jemma, Kaylee and Ha'aheo; brother-in-law, Norbert Probst of Island Grove; sister-in-law, Carrie Lidy of Roswell, NM.
Isabel was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Cletus; son, James "Jim" Lustig; infant daughter; two brothers, James and Jerry Lidy; three sisters, Marcella Deters, Dorothy Niebrugge and MaryAnn Probst.
