Iris F. Mietzner, 87 of Altamont, passed away at 2:37 p.m. Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at Lutheran Care Center in Altamont.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 13, 2015 at Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham with burial in Stewardson Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to time of service, Saturday morning at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association. Iris was born June 11, 1927 in St. Louis, Missouri, the daughter of William and Iva (Jennings) Cutler. She married Ross W. Mietzner in 1957 and he preceded her in death in 1978. Iris was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and was currently attending First Baptist Church in Altamont. She was a cook for Petro and 76 Truck Stop for many years. Iris enjoyed dancing, as well as playing the piano and harmonica.
Iris is survived by her four sons, Wayne Steele of Cowden, Jack Fowler of Effingham, William Mietzner of Altamont and James Mietzner of Albuquerque, New Mexico; three daughters, Judy Lane of Effingham, Janet Dye of Effingham and Jayne (Tom) Young of Sigel; sixteen grandchildren, twenty two great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild also survive.
Iris was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three grandchildren, Jeremy Young, John Steele and Bobbie Jo Hammond; two sisters, Amy Lowe and Nancy Pritts; Violet Ashbaugh.
