Helen M. Gier, 93 of Chicago, formerly of Sigel, passed away at 10:25 p.m. Friday, February 20, 2015 at Imperial Grove Pavillion in Chicago.
A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 27, 2015 at St. Michael Catholic Church in Sigel with burial in St. Michael Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to time of service, Friday morning at the church. Helen was born August 3, 1921 in Sigel, the daughter of Joseph B. Sr. and Louise (Konrad) Gier. She worked as the executive secretary for the Treasury Department for over 30 years and was a long time volunteer at the Art Institute of Chicago. Helen truly enjoyed traveling with her many friends, visiting all 50 states and places abroad. She loved spending time with her family and was an exceptional aunt, great aunt, cousin and friend to many. Helen was known for always bringing along a box of Fannie Mae candy.
Helen is survived by her brother, Louis H. (Joyce) Gier of Western Springs, Illinois; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Joseph B.( Margaret) Gier Jr. and Genevieve G. (Vincent) Donahue.
