Obituary

Harold Parker Davis, known to friends as "Bud," and his players as "Coach," passed away on December 7, 2018, at the age of 89.

A native of Effingham, Bud graduated from McKendree College with a Bachelor of Arts in Education, received his Master of Science in Education from Eastern University, and coached high school football, basketball, and track for over 24 years, primarily enjoying winning seasons at Warren High School in Monmouth, IL. He served in the US Army, and was a veteran of the Korean War. Bud was preceded in death by his mother and father, Tracy and Chancy Davis, and his siblings, Carl, Ruby (Cain), Marjorie (Baker), and Martha (McDowell), and his wife Dolores (nee Reed), whom he married December 24, 1950. He is survived by his brother Rex (Naydene); his children, Gayla Betts (Paul), Doak, Suzanne DeSutter (Randy), Kim Juraco, Christine Handy (Greg); five grandchildren, Mathew & Kristin DeSutter, Morgan & Samantha Juraco, Erica Gibbons; and his dear friend, Doris Lewis. Bud loved watching sports, especially the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team, and keeping in touch with his former players.

One of Bud's proudest moments was kicking off the game that brought the Effingham Flaming Hearts team back on the field in 1947 after a 17 year hiatus. He went on to play football all four years at McKendree.

A Memorial Service & Remembrance of Bud's life will be at 1 PM on Saturday, January 19, 2019, at Southside Baptist Church, 2308 South Veterans Drive, Effingham, IL 62401.

Memorial donations in memory of Bud may be made to Southside Baptist Church, or United Community Unit School District 304, Athletic Programs, 1905 100th Street, Monmouth, IL 61462 (formerly Warren High School).
