Obituary

Gloria E. Meyer of Teutopolis, Illinois, passed away peacefully at her home on June 10, 2021, surrounded by her loving family.

Gloria was born to Dr. Ola and Martha (Bonk) Kibler in Chicago, Illinois on March 5, 1940. After Gloria's father passed away when she was nine months old, many other loving relatives helped Martha raise her. Gloria spent her freshman year at St. Anthony High School in Effingham, Illinois, where she met Donald Meyer.

Gloria and Donald married on October 11, 1958, and they were blessed with four children- Beth (Greg) Elmore of Dieterich, Illinois, Don Meyer of Gila, Illinois, Ben Meyer of Heyworth, Illinois, and Mary (Ron) Sturgeon of Springfield, Illinois. They also shared seven grandchildren- Lisa (Bill) Zumbahlen, Michelle (Tony) Beckman, Jason (friend Nicole) Elmore, Morgan Sturgeon, Bailey Sturgeon, Travis (fiancée Alison) Meyer, and Derek Meyer, and nine great-grandchildren- Claire, Levi, Ella, Annie, Sarah, and Marie Zumbahlen, and Jack, Joni, and Jenna Beckman. Gloria is also survived by several cousins.

Gloria was a homemaker and the loving matriarch of the family. She spent many hours making the pies and kolaczkis that her family loved. Gloria was also a talented seamstress, creating and mending clothes, repairing stuffed animals, and making outfits for dolls. Gloria and Donald took the children on many camping trips, and enjoyed traveling in their retirement years, especially with their dear friends John and Marie Pike. Gloria grew up a few miles away from Wrigley Field and was thrilled when her Cubs finally won another World Series.
