Gerard "Gerry" Haarmann , 64 of Effingham, passed away on Saturday, April 1, 2023 at HSHS St. Anthony Memorial Hospital in Effingham.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 am Tuesday, April 4, 2023 at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Effingham with burial in the St. Anthony Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9:00 am to 11:00 am Tuesday at Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham. Memorial donations may be given to Community Support Systems of Teutopolis.
Gerry was born on November 12, 1958 in Effingham, the son of Fred and Helen Haarmann . Growing up, Gerry attended the Nanon Wood Center in Effingham and Armstrong Center in Mattoon. With assistance from Community Support Systems, Gerry was employed by Mid-America Corvette, Wal-Mart, and the CSS Developmental Training Center during his lifetime.
Gerry lived at Oakview Group Home in Effingham. He enjoyed playing summer park district soft ball, watching the Cardinals (his favorite baseball team), attending SEARCH Religion classes, and attending Mass. He loved the time he spent with family, friends and fellow workers at Community Support Systems. Gerry was known for his ability to remember details such as birthdates, anniversaries, and names.
He is survived by his brother, Tim (Lori); sisters, Carol (Kevin) Perkins and Rosina (Greg) Esker; 4 nieces, 8 nephews, 4 great-nieces, and 7 great-nephews.
Gerry was preceded in death by his parents.
The family wishes to thank everyone in the community who have been a part of Gerry's life. We have all been blessed to have known him.
