Obituary

Gerald Joseph Zerrusen passed away Monday, December 13 th , 2021.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, December 16, 2021 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church with burial in St. Francis Cemetery with military graveside rites. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to time of mass, Thursday at the church. Arrangements are in the care of Bauer Funeral Home in Teutopolis. Memorials may be made to Fear Nothing or donor's choice.

Gerald, commonly referred to as Jerry or everyone's favorite moniker "Chippy" was born July 20, 1932 to Henry and Emma (Swingler) Zerrusen in Teutopolis, Effingham County Illinois into a family of 6 siblings. He was married to Mary Ann Funneman on September 6, 1958 and she preceded him in death on June 19, 2020.

Chippy was a proud veteran of the Korean War who served our country on the front line as a Sergeant in the US Army. He was owner-operator of Zerrusen Milling and a hardworking farmer who built a pond for family and friends to gather. He was a Wooden Shoe fan who enjoyed watching his family in their sporting events.

Gerald is survived by his children Ron "Reggie" (Barb) Zerrusen; Kathleen (Dennis) Blievernicht; Dave (Kris) Zerrusen; Donna (Pat) Niemerg; Gene Zerrusen; Bob (Gina) Zerrusen; Sam (Beth) Zerrusen all of Teutopolis and Jay (Elsa) Zerrusen of New Canaan, CT.

Grandpa Chippy is survived by his 26 grandchildren – Jill Zerrusen, Leah Zerrusen, Sara (Mitch) Althoff, Lara (Trey) Dasenbrock; Ana (Mike) Meyer; Elise (Dane) Crosson; Bo (Ali) Blievernicht. Darren (Brooke) Zerrusen, Tony (Kendra) Zerrusen, Emma (fiancé John Schultz) Zerrusen and Margret (Tyler) Campbell, Garrett (Mandy) Niemerg, Collin (Natalie) Niemerg, Gabrielle (fiance' Kal Miller) Zerrusen, Christopher (Meagan) Zerrusen, Clay (Chelsea) Zerrusen, Connor Zerrusen, Isabelle Zerrusen. Trent Zerrusen, Kyle (fiancé Sara Kroeger) Zerrusen, Tyson Zerrusen, Kendal Zerrusen, Justine Zerrusen, Jaclyn Zerrusen, Ariana Corrente, Jenna Zerrusen and 15 Great Grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters Jeannette (George) Westendorf and Betty Ann Schmidlin, brother-in-law Bill (Shirley) Funneman and sister-in-law Bette Funneman.

Preceding Gerald in death were his beloved wife, his parents, brother Norbert (Vera) Zerrusen and sisters Loretta (Ben) Wolski and June Zerrusen.
