Georgia Ellen Dent, 74 of Effingham, passed away Friday, May 18, 2018 at Evergreen Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Effingham.

Georgia was born September 21, 1943 in Elmhurst, the daughter of George Ernst and Estelle (Schweitzer) Goewey. She graduated from Stephens College in 1961 and later went on to study mathematics at the University of Arizona, specializing in a field called game theory. Her other interest was genealogy. For many years, she wrote a weekly column on the topic for the Orange County Register in Santa Ana, California.

Georgia is survived by her son, Roy Jackson Dent, III, daughter-in-law, L. Kaye DeSelms Dent, grandsons, Adam Conrad DeSelms Dent and Thomas Jackson Dent, all of Effingham; niece, Joan Kohler of Chicago.

Georgia was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Elaine Simms Kohler and nephew, James Kohler.
