George William Guthery, 81 of Effingham, passed away Monday, February 21, 2022 at HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham, surrounded by his family.

A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 28, 2022 at Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham with burial in Arborcrest Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to time of service, Monday morning at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be given to Effingham County Humane Society.

George was born February 6, 1941 in Effingham, the son of George L. & Mildred E. (Matthews) Guthery. He married Viola Ann Knierim on June 30, 1960 and she preceded him in death in 2010.

George is survived by his daughter, Kathy (Scott) Witkowski of Effingham; son Billy Joe of Effingham; grandchildren, Danielle Witkowski of Effingham, Ashley Guthery (Josh Hair) of Ramsey, Jessica (Christopher) Spour of Altamont and Megan Guthery (Derrick Verhey) of Crawfordsville, IN; great-grandchildren, Harlan McConkey, Thea Spour, Lena Spour, Leti Spour, Jaxxsyn Schmidt, Brynle Hair and Madalynn Verhey.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Viola and sister, Shirley Parkhurst.
