Obituary

Gary L. Funneman, 53, of Teutopolis, died Wednesday afternoon, April 13, 2011.

Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, April 18, 2011 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Teutopolis with burial in St. Francis Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday, April 17, 2011 with a 6:30 p.m. parish wake service. Memorials may be made to Donor's Choice.

Gary was born September 15, 1957 in Effingham, the son of Robert and Wilma (Hatke) Funneman. He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Teutopolis and the Teutopolis Knights of Columbus Council #2874.

Gary was a lifelong bachelor and a devoted son who cared for his mother, as well as being a great brother to his siblings who recognized his generous spirit. He worked with his family doing construction for 35 years and also worked part time for Schwan's food delivery service.

Gary was an avid Cardinal's fan and relished hunting mushrooms in the springtime. He took pride in his annual Christmas light display and was fond of going to town to visit his friends.

He had many nieces and nephews who remember he'd sneak them candy when they'd come to visit and delighted in giving them countless rides on his tractors. He is loved and will be missed by his friends and family.

He is survived by three brothers, Wayne (Jeannie), Maurice and Ted, all of Teutopolis; five sisters, Janet (Roger) Woods of Grand Island, Florida, Nancy (Les) Boothby of Effingham, Debbie (Doug) Niemerg, Judy (Denny) Niemerg & Cindy (Doug) Buenker all of Teutopolis; 21 nieces & nephews; 17 great nieces & nephews. Gary is preceded in death by his father.
